With any successful company, leadership transitions are inevitable—and without a strategic succession plan in place, these changes can disrupt operations, erode morale and worse. This presentation explores succession planning as a critical component of organizational resilience and long-term success, including how to build a robust talent pipeline, address skills gaps and prepare future leaders across a multigenerational workforce. With these best practices, company leaders can help ensure continuity, preserve institutional knowledge and position their organizations for growth and innovation today and for the future.

SHRM/HRCI Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the business risks of inadequate succession planning and why good planning is essential for continued company success.

  • Identify common challenges—including skills gaps, lack of internal candidates and generational dynamics—and ways to overcome them.

  • Learn best practices for implementing a formal succession plan, from defining critical roles to creating contingency strategies.

  • Explore factors that help develop and retain future leaders, including tailored development plans, mentorship and cross-functional experience.

  • Discover how to leverage data, technology and workforce insights to monitor readiness and adapt succession strategies to evolving business needs.
