Speaker Bio:

Mr. Lucas represents management exclusively in the full range of employment and labor law matters, including employment discrimination litigation and traditional labor law. He has represented corporate clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic Region and nationally for more than 30 years, including clients in the maritime, ship repair, manufacturing, healthcare and service industries. Prior to entering private practice, Mr. Lucas practiced with the National Labor Relations Board as a Trial Specialist and Deputy to the Assistant General Counsel. An experienced trial attorney, Mr. Lucas is a member of the Firm's litigation, class action and complex litigation, disability management and traditional labor practice groups, and defends clients in litigation arising under Title VII, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, ERISA, Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Fair Labor Standards Act, National Labor Relations Act, and in other employment-related statutes. He also represents clients before federal and state administrative and regulatory agencies, including the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Department of Labor (Wage & Hour, OFCCP, OSHA), National Labor Relations Board,the Department of Justice and ICE. Mr. Lucas' counseling practice includes drafting employment policies, handbooks, employment and non-competition agreements, and advising clients on the difficult day-to-day issues arising in the workplace. He trains managers and supervisors in the law and practice of union avoidance, and he counsels and represents clients in organizational campaigns, collective bargaining and related litigation. Mr. Lucas was recognized for his employment and labor law expertise by his election as a Fellow in The College of Labor and Employment Law of the American Bar Association in 2009. He has been designated in The Best Lawyers in America, Labor and Employment Law, for the past twenty years and was selected for inclusion in 2012 and 2013 Virginia Super Lawyers. He is a past Chair of the Labor and Employment Section of the Virginia Bar Association and a member of the Employment Law Committee of the Virginia Chamber of Commerce. He is also a contributing editor to TheDeveloping Labor Law. Mr. Lucas is a graduate of Hobart College (BA, 1970), the Cornell School of Industrial and Labor Relations (MS, 1978) and the Catholic University School of Law (JD, 1981).
